Shiny water

Sometimes, like this morning, the water is shiny. Sometimes it’s not. Have you thought about why that might be? The patterns on the surface are telling us something.

“I can see some black circles.”

“I can see some white circles.”

“I can’t see some circles. They’s half of circles.”

“Yes, I can see semi-circles too. That’s what we call a half-circle. But I know that the rest of the circle is there; I just can’t see it because of the reflection in the puddle. Shall we see if I’m right?”

“It’s stopped raining.”
